Some of the biggest names in Scotch whisky have had their wheels turning this week with big new limited releases announced.
A new experimentation from Laphroaig has been captured as Elements L 2.0. With so much focus on cask finishes these days, it’s great to see experimentation at the start of the process. The team at Laphroaig have found that an extended fermentation period of their initial mash for 115 hours (usually between 55-90 based on various sources), has uncovered additional tropical fruit flavours and a softer peat finish. This cask strength batch is designed to emphasise those flavour and is currently available for £170 per bottle. More details here: Laphroaig Elements.

If there’s one scotch distillery whose releases always manage to whip people into a frenzy then it’s Macallan. As with several other distilleries mentioned recently, the Macallan turns 200 years old this year and they have clearly got a little existentialist with that milestone. Here they are experimenting with Time and Space with the release of an EIGHTY-FOUR YEAR OLD whisky! That’s right 84yo! It was distilled in 1940!!
