It would come as no surprise that Mackmyra has been one of my favourite distilleries in recent years. The sheer number of posts on here should be testament to that. It is devastating to hear then that the distillery has filed for bankruptcy in Sweden.
The distillery has been in an odd state of flux since Angela D’Orazio left as their chief nosing officer, and the shift to new ownership and rebranding has been a little stilted. Or at least, at odds to the magic of previous years.
Nearly 2 years ago saw the launch of Destination (see our post here) and the releases have been slow and steady since with a sense of something coming. Unfortunately, not the something that we wanted.
The news also comes just days after Mackmyra had announced that it was relaunching in the UK and appointing the impressive Summerton Whisky Club as their brand ambassador.
Sad and confusing times.
Hopefully the processes in Sweden can come to some sort of resolution where the name, brands, and (most importantly) whisky can continue.
